It will take one hour from Batam island. Chartered aircrafts is also available and advance booking is recommended. Sultan Thaha airport is only a 10 minutes drive from the town center. Trading ships sail along Batang Hari river to Boom Batu, Jambi's riverport, one of the busiest parts in Sumatra. To see more of the land, bus riding is an interesting experience. It is 4 hours drive from Palembang and 8 hours drive from Padang.
